Lighthouse Project (2.0) Disability Reference Group

Expressions of Interest

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from people with a disability who are currently working in all levels and positions of local government in WA to join the Lighthouse Project Disability Reference Group (DRG).

The Lighthouse Project aims to increase the employment of people with disability in WA local government. Local government is one of the biggest employers in most communities in WA. Most have a stated intention to reflect their communities in their workforce. This makes their organisations both stronger and fairer. However, the percentage of people with disability employed in WA local government is barely moving. The Lighthouse Project is seeking to hear and amplify the voices of people with disability who have experience of employment in local government - what works, what doesn't, key messages and priorities for positive change.

The DRG ha met once and will meet four more times over the course of the project. New members are very welcome.

Three of the meetings will include a session to discuss a relevant topic (decided by the DRG) that will be open for others to join in, either in person or by video conference. The discussions will be used to prepare short papers. Once approved by the DRG, these will be added to the Lighthouse resource library, published on the LG Professionals WA website and promoted throughout the project.

Each meeting is also aligned to a key milestone of the project so the group will have direct input. The remaining milestones are: grant assessments; CEO of the Year Award; survey design and evaluation.

In addition to the benefits for the project and the sector from your participation, we are committed to providing an enjoyable, high quality professional development and collegial experience. Lunch will be provided.

The next meetings will be Thursday 11 July 2019, Monday 7 October 2019, February 2020 and June 2020 (exact dates in 2020 to be confirmed). For non-metro participants, the cost of travel, accommodation and meals will be covered. Transport costs can also be covered for metro participants.
