LG Professionals WA Medal
Category overview and eligibility
The LG Professionals WA Medal Award is awarded to honoured members who have made outstanding achievements and contributed to the local government sector and LG Professionals WA. Their active leadership and outstanding contributions must be evident through innovation, advocacy, research, and leadership within WA local government. Up to one Medal is awarded each year.
Eligibility
A member of LG Professionals WA; and evidence of outstanding achievements and contribution to local government sector and LG Professionals WA.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• How has local government benefited from the nominee's active leadership, contributions and initiatives? What are the nominee's significant contributions to the improvement of the local government sector?
• How has the nominee participated in LG Professionals WA, Networks and Branches, working groups and/or committees?
  How has the nominee advocated on behalf of the professionals in the sector on matters affecting local government professionals?
• In what ways and how much has the nominee supported and mentored peers and officers in local government?

Meritorious Award
Category overview and eligibility
This award recognises people who have given long-term service to local government, functioning at a high level of excellence.
Up to two Meritorious Awards will be presented each year.
Eligibility
A member of LG Professionals WA; and a history of involvement in the work of LG Professionals WA.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• For how many years has the person served in local government? In what roles, at which local governments?
• In what ways have the contributed above and beyond the parameters and expectations of their position?
• In what ways have they contributed to improvements in the local government industry?
• In what ways have they contributed to the wok and objectives of LG Professionals WA?
• How have they supported the local government sector and colleagues?

Change Leader Award 
Supported by Aware Super
Category overview and eligibility
This award recognises outstanding achievement of a local government senior leader who demonstrated agile and resilient leadership in response to the challenges presented during 2022. Evidence of leadership may include professionally managed change and response plans, management and leadership of staff and teams during a daily changing period, clear decision-making, and ability to adapt and respond as situations evolved.
Eligibility
A member of LG Professionals WA.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Was the leader resilient and agile in responding to the constantly changing environment?
• Are there examples of where they have contributed above and beyond the parameters and expectations of their position?
• In implementing changes, was the process well-articulated and communicated to all stakeholders?
• Did the leader demonstrate empathy and working with staff collaboratively on their individual circumstances?

Emerging Leader of the Year Award 
Supported by Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries
Category overview and eligibility
This award recognises leadership and management excellence of an emerging local government leader, someone who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to their community and whose performance is worthy of special recognition. Evidence of leadership may include corporate process improvements, a project initiative, innovation in management and leadership practices, or demonstrated practicality and resourcefulness.
Eligibility
A member of LG Professionals WA; aged 35 years or younger and working in local government; and currently in a non-executive role.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Are the major achievements of the nominee significant to their community or worthy of special recognition?
• Have they contributed to their local government or sector as an individual or as part of a team?
• Have they driven better practice opportunities through a process, project or initiatives in the local government or community?
• Are there examples of where they have contributed above and beyond the parameters and expectations of their position?
• Does the nominee show a willingness to expand their leadership capability so that they can contribute back to the future development of the organisation and sector?
• What do you consider to be the areas of strength in their leadership?
• What do you see as areas for improvement in their leadership?
• How do you see the Emerging Leader of the Year award helping the nominee in developing their leadership potential?

Connecting Communities Awards 
Category overview and eligibility
Local Government plays a key role as a community enabler through providing opportunities, places and spaces for their communities to meet, play, engage and prosper. This award recognises local governments that are taking proactive approaches to developing vibrant connected communities. There are two categories of this award: Population of up to 15,000 and Population over 15,000 to recognise the varying size and scale of WA local governments.
Eligibility
Nominations are open to local governments or other organisations that partner with local government.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Was the initiative / approach designed to increase community vibrancy and connectedness?
• How as the initiative aligned to the local government's Strategic Community Plan?
• Was the initiative effective and how was it measured?
• How was the community engaged throughout this initiative?
• Did the initiative help to create a Sense of Place that was unique to the local government area?
• What were the key learnings from this initiative?
• Did the local government play a leadership and/or enabler role?
• Is there ongoing review of the approach?
• How well could this initiative be transferred to another WA local government?

Innovative Management Initiative Award
Category overview and eligibility
This award recognises initiatives that lead the way in management and leadership in local government, that improve local government processes and practices, and deliver outstanding benefits to the local government and/or community.
There will be an award for an initiative in a local government with a population less than 15,000 and an award for an initiative in a local government with a population of more than 15,000.
Eligibility
Nominations are open to local governments or other organisations that partner with local government.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Did the initiative achieve its intended goals, and did it deliver more goals that were intended?
• Was the initiative unique and did it have defining factors?
• Was the initiative effective? Did it demonstrate excellence in corporate process improvements?
• How well did the local government demonstrate its management and leadership of this initiative?
• How well did the local government evaluate the effectiveness of the initiative?
• How well could this initiative be transferred to another WA local government?

Partnerships and Collaboration Award
Category overview and eligibility
This award highlights genuine and effective partnerships and collaborations that have demonstrated benefits for the local government and the community, and demonstrate a commitment to working with the community.
It recognises excellence in collaboration between local governments, community partnerships and partnerships created to provide or improve services that strengthen and enhance the physical or social infrastructure of a region, including integration with other spheres of government.
There will be an award for an initiative in a local government with a population less than 15,000 and an award for an initiative in a local government with a population of more than 15,000.
Eligibility
Nominations are open to local governments or other organisations that partner with local government.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Is there a clear description of the partners to the initiative and their roles and contributions to the initiative?
• Does the initiative demonstrate a commitment to working with the community?
• Did the initiative achieve its intended objective? What positive outcomes did it deliver - and for whom?
• Was the initiative unique and did it have distinguishing or innovative features?
• has the initiative achieved excellence and had a positive impact on the local community?
• What barriers did the partners have to overcome for the collaboration to succeed?
• How well could this initiative be transferred to another WA local government?

Environmental Leadership and Sustainability Award
Category overview and eligibility
This award recognises dedication to sustainability through corporate process improvements or initiatives that yield significant real or potential environmental benefits. Additional credit will be given to nominations that are shown to be applicable and transferable to other local governments. 
There will be an award for an initiative in a local government with a population less than 15,000 and an award for an initiative in a local government with a population of more than 15,000.
Eligibility
Nominations are open to local governments or other organisations that partner with local government.
Winner obligations
The winner be required to undertake publicity working with LG Professionals WA and may be asked to present at an associated event.
Judging criteria

• Was the initiative developed with clearly defined objectives, scope, and outcomes?
• How effective was the initiative? How was the cost of the program measured and evaluated against the outcomes?
• How innovative and unique was the initiative?
• How was the size and complexity of the initiative managed?
• Can the initiative be scaled up?
• How well could this initiative be transferred to another WA local government?
