Road Safety

The 5th UN Global Road Safety Week will take place from 6 to 12 May 2019.

The theme for 2019 is 'Leadership for road safety' and the goal is to generate a demand from the public for stronger leadership for road safety worldwide.

It's objectives are:

  • provide an opportunity for civil society to generate demands for strong leadership for road safety, especially around concrete, evidence-based interventions which will save lives
  • inspire leaders to take action by showcasing examples of strong leadership for road safety within governments, international agencies, NGOs, foundations, schools and universities and private companies, among others

In partnership with RAC  and in support of Road Safety week, we are providing this dedicated resource for WA local governments to help raise awareness of road safety issues and provide resources and information.

Local governments are ideally placed to take a leadership role in helping to educate and influence their communities and assist their residents in understanding road safety advice. Local governments must also lead their communities by example and adopt road safety initiatives that ultimately save lives.

The 2019 UN Road Safety Week theme acknowledges that stronger leadership is needed to advance road safety in countries and communities worldwide.

To assist local governments in promoting their road safety initiatives and to encourage collaborative learning across the sector, we are providing a dedicated page on this website for local governments to showcase videos (preferred) or photos, of their road safety initiatives in action. Ideally your video will be fronted by your CEO/Mayor or President or other senior employee to tie in with the leadership theme of Road Safety Week.

All videos and photos submitted will be considered for further promotional opportunities for your local government.

Submissions will open on Monday 6 May 2019 and close Friday 28 June 2019, with an overall winner being announced shortly afterwards.

Submissions should be emailed to projects@lgprofessionalswa.org.au
