Lighthouse Project Grants Program

In 2015 and 2016, all West Australian local governments were invited to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 to develop and implement initiatives that improve the recruitment and retention of people with disability.

In 2015, grants of $102,316 supported 11 local governments to carry out this initiative and in 2016, an additional 15 local governments have received grants totalling $132,404.

2016 Lighthouse Project grant recipients:


 

City of Bunbury, $10,000.
Equal opportunity training to be provided to all City staff. 

Shire of Corrigin, $10,000.
Accessible toilet and shower facilities to be installed at the Shire Works Depot, Council’s policies and procedures to be updated and work to be undertaken with a Disability Employment Services (DES) provider to improve recruitment process.

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council, $9,500.
Disability-focused staff training and development programs to be developed and implemented to increase disability confidence and a culture of inclusiveness with the council.

City of Fremantle, $9,392.
Customised disability awareness training to be provided to council members, the executive leadership team and staff.

Shire of Goomalling, $10,000.
Shire policy to be updated with advice from a DES provider; disability awareness training provided to human resources, recruitment and management staff; a work experience program to be developed with a DES provider.

Shire of Kalamunda, $4,425.
Disability awareness training to be provided to staff and a workshop to be developed for management staff regarding Outcome 7.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, $10,000.
Disability awareness training for employees, councillors and human-resource staff. External back door of administration building to be made accessible.

City of Mandurah, $10,000.
City’s workforce plan to be aligned with the access and inclusion plan; skills audit to explore perception and culture to be undertaken; customised training to address identified needs provided; improve recruitment processes and promote the City as an inclusive employer.

Shire of Murray, $7,980.
Schedule to alter internal doorways, widen passageways and provide access to photocopiers and a unisex accessible toilet and shower to improve access for people who use wheelchairs and those who have mobility / spatial issues.

City of Nedlands, $5,625.
Customised training to be provided to staff who supervise employees with disability and co-workers who work with a person with disability. 

Shire of Perenjori, $6,232.
Disability awareness training to be provided to staff. 

City of South Perth, $10,000.
Disability awareness training to be provided, a work experience program to be developed and an employment expo to be held to assist DES.

City of Stirling, $9,500.
Develop a video to educate, direct and engage City employees, especially those involved in the recruitment of employees and volunteers.

Town of Victoria Park, $9,750.
Deliver a project to develop a systematic approach to providing opportunities in workforce planning and the recruitment and retention of people with disability.

Shire of Wandering, $10,000.
Modify the Shire’s front reception desk to improve accessibility, review job descriptions and design a work experience training module to develop an inclusive culture in the workplace.
