Delivering next steps in online Communications

Join us at our LG Professionals WA Comms Network launch event to hear from leading WA Digital specialists about what's happening in our industry, and in big business in WA. Learn about the latest digital opportunities and how to make the most of them for your LG community.

As WA LG marketing and communications specialists we share many of the same challenges, goals and expectations. We all share the excitement and stresses of our constantly evolving field - as digital evolution offers us new opportunities every day.

We have invited local innovators to speak to us about their work and share their insights into what we can get involved in, and where we should focus our efforts for the best impact and value.

Program

8.45am - Registration

9.00am - Welcome
Kai Lothian, Comms Network Committee Chair and Manager Communications and Marketing, City of Armadale

9.10am - Social Media in an era of activated communities
Emma Gibbens and Anthony Fisk, CGM
WA councils are finding themselves increasingly 'distracted' by vocal single-issue groups of newly empowered ratepayers who demand genuine engagement on issues of importance to them. Armed with new tools and platforms, individuals have the power to activate and organise communities of opposition like never before. Social media hasn't created this problem, it has just provided the opportunity to organise. Online communities are just like any other community and the principles of early engagement, genuine consultation and respectful interaction continue to apply.

9.30am - Digital has changed consumer behaviours permanently.

Jane Muirsmith, Managing Director Lenox Hill
Customers are now more connected, more savvy and more vocal than ever. Local governments in WA are experiencing first-hand the weight of community expectations as residents bring their preconceived ideas on how they wish to be engaged and what they expect to receive in return from their investment. Jane will share her experiences to demonstrate how local governments can get the most out of their digital communications. Jane will also share the latest digital trends their clients are utilising and why.
