The Work Health and Safety Act 2020 was passed by the WA Parliament late last year. Local governments now have a limited opportunity, before the Act comes into effect, to ensure that their workplace practices and procedures are compliant. 

Neil Douglas, Partner at McLeods Barristers and Solicitors will provide a briefing on the principal features of the new Act, including:

  • the duties imposed on local governments, senior employees and others;
  • the principles that apply to these duties;
  • minimising risks 'so far as is reasonably practicable'; and
  • consultation requirements

Presenter - Neil Douglas, Partner, McLeods Barristers and Solicitors


For over 40 years, Neil Douglas has acted for Federal, State and local governments. He has been a partner of McLeods Lawyers for almost 14 years and was previously a partner at Minter Ellison for over 16 years.

Neil has been commissioned by the State Government to head a number of public inquiries, including inquiries into governance issues at the City of Cockburn and into governance and clinical operations at King Edward Memorial Hospital. He served as Acting Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission for 3 years between 2012 and 2015.
