Local governments across Western Australia continue to face significant workforce challenges from the current shortage of skilled and qualified workers. This shortage has the potential to impact essential service delivery to communities across the state.

So how do we attract more workers to a sector that is often misunderstood or misrepresented?

Local governments provide essential services across the state, deliver impactful projects, and work with many different businesses and stakeholders to create the vibrant communities in which we live. The services provided by a local government are varied and span arts and culture, economic development, youth and aged care services, building and planning, and more. Yet few people see and understand this side of the sector - the diversity of opportunities available beyond 'roads, rates and rubbish'.
